It is a pleasure to announce the appointment of Linda Knox as Head, Department of Midwifery for BC Women’s Hospital and Health Centre, effective February 21, 2013. Linda has served as acting department head of Midwifery since 2009, and prior to that was Assistant Head to the department. We are very pleased that she has now agreed to take on this permanent role. In addition to her position at BC Women’s, Linda has also been appointed Head of the Department of Midwifery for St. Paul’s Hospital, Providence Health Care.
Linda is a Registered Midwife and an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Division of Midwifery, Faculty of Medicine at the University of British Columbia.
She is well known to her professional colleagues, peers and other staff at BCW and has shown outstanding skills in leading a department of over 50 midwives at BCW. Linda is a past President of the Midwives Association of BC and was a leader in the work of establishing midwifery as a recognized profession within the BC healthcare system. She is known as a team player who operates from a basis of peer-reviewed evidence for best practice standards. Linda has been a practicing midwife in the metro Vancouver area for more than 25 years and is currently working as a care provider in the South Community Birth Program, a collaborative maternity care program.
We are fortunate in having someone of Linda’s professional caliber and commitment to lead this key department at BC Women’s.
