This message is to inform you about the opportunity to take a Master of Health Professions Education (MHPE) program from Maastricht University, delivered in part from Vancouver, BC and London, ON. The Co-coordinators of this program are myself, Dr. Angela Towle (Associate Professor, Medicine and Senior Scholar, CHES), and Dr. Mark Goldszmidt (Associate Professor, Medicine/Associate Director, Centre for Education Research & Innovation at Western University). We accepted our first cohort of Masters students in 2012 and our first students graduated in 2014. Experiences of the program to date have been very positive.
This two-year, internationally recognized, specialization course will lead to a research-based master’s degree from Maastricht University, The Netherlands. The objectives of the MHPE program are to provide teachers of health professionals, including physicians, nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, dentists and others, with the capacity to implement and improve their educational programs and to conduct education research related to regional and national health priorities. The MHPE-Canada focuses on the acquisition of competencies and abilities (knowledge and skills), relevant for innovative medical and health professions education in Canada. The on-campus course units are delivered by faculty members you know from both UBC and WU, with the distance-based course units being delivered by faculty at Maastricht University.
Further details can be found in the attached brochure, or here on the CHES website. Please note this year’s application deadline is December 19, 2014.
