The man who has been called The Pride of Port McNeill, Dr. Granger Avery, was installed on August 25, 2016 as the 149th president of the Canadian Medical Association, an organization with 80,000 members. Born in 1946, in London’s King’s College Hospital where his mother trained as a physician, Avery is a 70-year-old recently retired general practitioner and former president of the B.C. Medical Association. He will become just the 13th B.C. doctor to hold the national position after physicians elected him as their nominee.
