Small Group Modules

The modules have been written to address many of the core teaching skills which teachers in our Family Practice program need to be effective with their residents. They can be used by an individual but will likely be more effective if they are used to facilitate a small group discussion. The modules can also be used to give power point presentations on the subjects.

We appreciate your interest. Please complete an assessment form when you or your group have completed a module. Our program will send acknowledgement of your completion of the modules. Your feedback will help us improve the modules.

Facilitated small group:

One member of your group will act as the facilitator. This member should pre-read the speakers notes and guide the other members through the slide presentations. The slides will direct the group where to pause for discussions. It is expected that discussion will occasionally wander into related topics.

Power Point presentations:

The modules can be downloaded and used as a presentation at a formal program. The speakers notes should give the presenter adequate information to present the topic and encourage discussion.

Topics:

The One Minute Preceptor
Preparing your office for a Resident
The Resident in Difficulty
Graduated Responsibility
Effective Questioning
Teaching Professionalism
The Hidden Curriculum
Level of Intervention for Preceptors
