Prison Medicine Education

The Collaborating Centre for Prison Health and Education (CCPHE) is actively seeking ways to develop and expand prison medicine education through the University of British Columbia. In 2009, the CCPHE was fortunate to receive funding support from the UBC Teaching and Learning Enhancement Fund which supported the formalized development and expansion of prison medicine education opportunities for undergraduate and postgraduate learners.

A working group is meeting monthly via teleconference to advise on the design, implementation, and evaluation of prison medical education activities for UBC undergraduate and postgraduate medical students. This group has representation from BC Corrections, Corrections Services of Canada, academics from UBC, students, former inmates, and primary care providers with experience in prison clinical settings. A complete list of the working group members, the mandate and quorum is available in the Terms of Reference document.
