2015 BC College of Family Physicians Award Winners Announced

Congratulations to the following department members for their outstanding achievements:

Family Physician of the Year

Recipients are skilled clinicians, community-based, they serve as resources for those in their communities, value the patient-doctor relationship and commit themselves as researchers and educators to future generations of family doctors


Dr Anthon MeyerMeyer, Anthon. Photo is described as a primary care visionary with commendable leadership in providing comprehensive care to rural, remote, and First Nations communities throughout Canada.  After receiving his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (M.B. Ch.B.) from the University of Free State, South Africa, in 1991, Dr Meyer completed an internship with the Universitas Hospital Training Complex in South Africa in 1993. In 2000, he moved to northern Manitoba, and he received Certification in Family Medicine by the College of Family Physicians of Canada in 2004.  Read more here


Teacher of the Year

Recognizes individuals who have sustained an educational impact in the community and demonstrates excellence in teaching


_WDP7448Dr. Marla Gordon has been a pioneer in teaching residential care and elder care to medical students and residents for more than 15 years, initiating and coordinating a Residential Care elective to inspire other physicians to join the field.  Among her administrative and clinical roles, Dr. Gordon is Physician Operations Leader for Residential Care at Providence Health Care and a medical coordinator at several Providence elder care sites.
